Every garden is a learning experience. This year, we learned that the Florida Weave method of trellising is not right for our setup. We tried the Florida weave because we didn’t want to deal with cages this year (why, I don’t remember). We did some research and thought it looked easy enough. It’s supposed to provide better support for plants and reduce the need for excessive pruning. I’m sure the Florida weave method is great in some setups. But it was not great for us this year. With our two rows of plants, it made pruning and watering very difficult, and I couldn’t easily get to my basil and marigolds growing in the middle. Lessons learned for sure! Squeezing in this grilled peach dessert just before peach season ends! 😳 Grilled peaches are one of summer’s simplest pleasures. A little heat and char bring out some of its natural sugars and ripe, bright flavor. If you still have fresh peaches available in your area, grab some and make this dessert ASAP! Cut a peach in half and brush each side with some oil (avocado or olive oils work well here). Place face down on a heated grill or grill pan over medium-low heat. Grill for no more than 5 minutes, just enough to warm the peach and get those good grill marks. Remove from the heat and top with vanilla ice cream and a dash of cinnamon. They now tower above our fence in the back yard. The bees and birds love them. Pickled red onions are an absolute staple in our fridge! We love putting them on burgers, tacos, salads, and honestly sometimes just eating them on their own. To make them, just thinly slice your red onions in these half moon shapes, put them in a jar with some pickling salt (or kosher salt). Fill the jar with half white vinegar, half boiling water. Close the jar and give it a good shake, and refrigerate.
