Update: 6 Goals in 6 Months

Back in June, I wrote a post about 6 goals I wanted to accomplish in the next 6 months. It was actually my first post on my new and improved blog, after I rebranded and moved to WordPress! Gotta start the new blog off on a strong note, right?

It’s one thing to write about my goals, but following up on my progress is just as important. It helps me stay on track and hold myself accountable for everything I want to work on and accomplish. Plus, who knows if someone else has similar goals to me, and we can work together to help each other get there? Goals cheerleaders are the best.

So, let’s take a look at how I did on my 6 goals:

Get in shape: This one is always up and down for me, and admittedly I struggle more with this than other areas. Consistency has always been my biggest obstacle with fitness. I’ll do great for several weeks, and then fall off, and then I’ll get back to it and do great, and so on. Sometimes I think I get bored with my routines and have to find something new to keep me engaged. Once I’m back in town after the holidays, I plan to check out some new classes and gyms in my area, like Pure Barre and yoga. I know how good stretching is for you, and Pure Barre seems right up my alley.

Eat healthfully: While I wasn’t 100% healthy, 100% of the time, I definitely did better with this than I had in the previous 6 months. I cut out a ton of processed and frozen foods and incorporated much more wholesome ingredients and foods in my cooking. Frozen and boxed foods are easy and often cheap, but they’re not always healthful. I feel so much better about my diet now, and I truly enjoy cooking and experimenting with new ingredients. And cooking and eating healthfully doesn’t have to taste like cardboard!

Find a new creative outlet: I can’t say that I’ve nailed down a brand new creative outlet. It’s more like, I’ve rediscovered and embraced creative outlets I once loved! I got back to my artsy-crafty side and started making a smash book to chronicle my first year in Tennessee. I also got back into music and started ringing handbells again with a local church. And lastly, my parents brought my violin back to me over Thanksgiving and I started practicing again, for the first time in 3 years. It took a few days for the rust to wear off, but I eventually got back into a rhythm.

While street art definitely isn’t one of my new creative outlets, I saw this in the Northshore neighborhood in Chattanooga and had to snap a picture. These wise words from the one and only Steve Perry will always be inspiring.

Adjust to blogging on WordPress: I definitely think I’ve done really well here! When I first made the move to WordPress, I was still unsure if it was really the right thing to do, and if I felt comfortable making it happen. While I do miss some elements from Blogger, I can confidently say I’m so glad I switched to WordPress. There was a learning curve, and believe me I’m still learning new tips and tricks each day. But I feel so much better about using WordPress day in and day out than I did 6 months ago. So, thumbs up to me!

Get a kitty: Absolutely got this one! Not much else to say here, except that sweet Maggie is the best furry companion I could ever ask for. I say I picked her, but really, she picked me.

Save money: Saving money isn’t always the easiest thing to do when adulthood calls for so many different things, and I can’t always plan for those things. But I’ve done pretty well with this. Keeping a coin jar on my dresser is a huge help. Whenever I have loose change, I store it there and count it up after several months. Anything from the jar goes into my savings account.

Overall, I think I did pretty well sticking to these goals and making them happen. Did I make 100% of them happen 100% of the time? No, I didn’t, and that’s okay. Some goals aren’t meant to be 100% complete at any given point; they’re meant to be pursued continually and improved upon over time.

Just because the year is over, doesn’t mean I’ll stop working on these goals (well, except for getting a kitty; I can clearly check that one off). In addition to some other goals I have for the New Year, I’ve still got a lot of work to do. Never stop working hard and improving where you can grow and improve!
