5 Things I Wish I Knew When I Started Blogging
Today I’m offering up my thoughts on what I wish I knew when I started blogging over three years ago. When I started, I didn’t know a thing about the world of blogging. I learned along the way and figured it all out myself, while taking a few nods here and there from some of my favorite bloggers. While my advice isn’t exactly top-notch, it can’t hurt to share it anyway.
{1} Being consistent is hard. Blogging every day is really hard, especially when you’re in school and have lots going on in your life. It took me several months to get into my “blogging routine,” and even then I was still working out the kinks. Don’t expect to just fall into a schedule or routine when you first start. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but just like any other project, figuring it out takes time. Be patient.
{2} Your blog will evolve and you will more than likely go through a rebrand/revamp at some point. At first I thought that the blog I initially created had to be my blog forever. No, it doesn’t. Mine changed after about a year, and I haven’t looked back. Embrace change for your blog.
{3} It’s okay to go through “dry spells.” Everyone gets them sooner or later. Don’t panic. It will pass.
{4} There is a science to effectively posting and sharing your content on social media. Plan accordingly if you want your posts to get a lot of views and interactions. Well, when SHOULD I be posting and sharing my content? I’ve got you covered: read this.
{5} You know the piece of advice writers always give, “You learn more about your own writing by reading others’ work”? The same applies to blogging. Find blogs you like and/or blogs that reflect what you want to show in yours, and read them often. I cannot speak to this enough. This has helped me in so many ways and I highly recommend it for any blogger, whether you’re just starting or you’ve been at it a while.

Happy Friday!
