They say you’re never fully dressed without a smile, but I never feel fully dressed without my hair looking nice. Blowouts are a great way to make my hair look voluminous, bouncy and fabulous, but I absolutely cannot make my hair do what I want it to do. The Blowout Co. is a boutique hair and beauty salon that specializes in–you guessed it–blowouts and other fancy hair designs. It first opened in Nashville almost four years ago, and now has three salons. Chattanooga’s salon, located on Cowart Street in the Southside, opened this past November and is the fourth and newest location. It is Chattanooga’s only blowout-exclusive salon.

My dear friend Nicole and I stopped into the Chattanooga salon last weekend for our own blowout experience. Chattanooga Manager Amanda Ryan knew exactly what style my hair needed right off the bat. She started with a deep shampoo: one clarifying wash to get any products out of my hair, and one wash to actually wash my hair. The first wash made such a difference in how many hair held up for the rest of the day (and the day after).

Amanda worked her magic on my hair with a big round brush, which gave me tons of volume and soft curls. Stylist Kenzie created Nicole’s beautiful waves of the “Southside” blowout style. Amanda said blowout styles will last 1-2 days longer than a “regular” style, depending on your personal hair care routine. To keep the blowout in perfect shape, she suggested using dry shampoo spray on the roots and an oil on the ends.

The Blowout Co. uses Davines and Kevin Murphy products to make its clients’ hair look and feel fabulous, and you can shop their collection before heading out. I picked up a bottle of Kevin Murphy “Damage Control” heat-protecting spray myself.
