Peach Salsa
Welcome to Peach Week—a whole week of celebrating my favorite summer fruit! This week, I’ll be sharing all kinds of peachy recipes here and over on my Instagram. Cocktails, snacks, desserts, everything featuring juicy, delicious peaches. First up: Peach Salsa.
Okay, so, confession: I’m not a huge fan of tomatoes. So making Peach Salsa as my first Peach Week recipe seems pretty weird, right? Here’s the deal: I used locally-grown tomatoes that I picked up from our Sunday farmer’s market. Those tasted so much better than any tomato I’ve ever bought from a grocery store. Local makes a difference, y’all!
When we lived in Atlanta, my mom had a few planter boxes on our driveway and porch, where she grew some tomatoes, peppers, and a few herbs. One thing she liked to make the most was fresh salsa. She made all kinds of variations with different ingredients as the bases or additional flavors. In fact, I think she even made peach salsa without tomatoes once. Either way, that was one of her favorite snacks and we made a lot of fresh salsa before we left that house and had to leave our planters behind.
Related: I’ve started growing my own herbs on my little apartment porch. It’s… going. I’m learning a lot about patience, and that there is such a thing as overwatering. RIP my rosemary and cilantro. But my mint, basil, and thyme are doing quite well!
Salsa is a really great snack or appetizer this time of year. It’s easy to toss together, requires very simple ingredients, and you can mix in almost any seasonal fruits, veggies, or herbs you’ve got on hand. While tomatoes are traditionally the main ingredient in salsa, they don’t have to be the main ingredient in YOUR salsa. I made peaches the feature of this one, but I still used a locally-grown tomato to bring it all together. I added some basil and cilantro for some herby freshness. And of course some lime juice, salt, and pepper. Salsa really is that easy to make!
All right, let’s get into the recipe.
