Frozen Peach Margaritas
It’s National Tequila Day! Who would have thought I, typically a non-tequila drinker, be toasting this “holiday”? But it’s also peach season, and as y’all know, I’m obsessed with peaches. So I popped a bottle of tequila and got creative, and this was the result: Frozen Peach Margaritas!
If you’re as obsessed with peaches as I am, be sure to check out more of my peach recipes here. And stay tuned, because there’s a lot more coming for National Peach Month in August!
Frozen Peach Margaritas
Like I said, I’m normally not a tequila drinker. I’m also not normally into frozen drinks. But something about this pair felt right for this time of year, so I went with it and was pleased with how they turned out.
After one too many unenjoyable experiences with tequila, I finally found one kind that I actually kind of enjoy drinking, and that doesn’t give me rough side effects: Espolon Reposado. Reposado is tequila that is “rested” (aged) in new American oak barrels. This gives it its recognizable golden color and oaky, slightly vanilla flavor notes, and mellows the agave flavor usually tasted in blanco tequilas. Maybe I have a problem with stronger agave? Oh well.
In the past, blanco tequilas and let’s be honest, poorly made, super sweet college-town “margaritas” have given me immediate headaches and awful hangovers, even if I didn’t finish what I was drinking. By some miracle, Espolon Reposado doesn’t have any of those effects on me, and I enjoy the taste. Plus, if I’m being honest, I really just wanted an excuse to put more peaches in a cocktail. It’s that time of year, after all.
I like this reposado in these frozen peach margaritas. The agave and tequila flavors aren’t overpowering, and the peaches get to shine as the star ingredient. A little fresh lime juice and orange liqueur bring it all together. There’s no need for extra agave or simple syrup since the peaches are already pretty sweet. But if you prefer sweeter margaritas, be my guest and add 0.5 – 1 ounce of simple syrup or agave to your margs. It’s your cocktail; make it the way you want!
Ready to make Frozen Peach Margaritas?
Sometimes frozen margaritas can be fun, especially when it’s stupid hot outside like it’s been here in Tennessee lately. But if you prefer these shaken over ice, just add a few fresh peach slices into your shaker with the remaining ingredients, add ice, shake, and strain into your prepared glasses. That works, too!
