Orange Oatmeal Craisin Cookies
Well, happy December, y’all! ‘Tis the season for all my favorite holiday baking. The recipe I’m sharing today for Orange Oatmeal Craisin Cookies is one of my favorite experiments of the last few years. It was one of those recipes that I just knew was going to work when I thought of it.
Let’s just say I’ll be making these Orange Oatmeal Craisin Cookies for many, many years to come.
My dad loves oatmeal cookies. His preference is oatmeal chocolate chip, so that’s what I made for him when I lived at home. We both agree that raisins don’t belong in cookies. He’s about as experimental with flavors as I am, so I figured this is one baking experiment he’d be on board with.
In my binge-watching marathons of the Great British Bake-off, I’ve come across some really unique flavor combinations that I’d never thought of before. One of those was orange, cranberry, and white chocolate. I’ve always liked the orange and cranberry combo, but I’ve never been a big fan of white chocolate. It’s not actually “real chocolate,” after all! But it sounded deliciously different, so I was intrigued enough to give it a try.
I’m very glad I did, because everyone at Thanksgiving loved them.
Actually, the first time I made these cookies, I only added the white chocolate chips to half the dough, just to make sure I liked it. When I made them the second time for Thanksgiving, I added them right from the start. The cookies are just as good without the white chocolate, but they really do take them to another level.
My dad suggested trying these cookies with dark chocolate chips, so I’ll try that next time. But visually, I like how the white chocolate chips give a little pop next to the craisins and oats. You might could even use fresh cranberries instead of the craisins if you want more of that tart flavor. And with most of my recipes, you can adjust the amounts of orange zest and add-ins based on your taste preferences!
