Creamy Herby Ranch Dip and Dressing
Here in the South, we love a good ranch sauce. We smother salads with it, dunk our wings, chicken tenders and fries in it (at least I do), drizzle it on sandwiches, dip veggies in it, and so much more. This is my favorite ranch dip recipe, and it can double as a dressing with a little tweak.
When I decided to start making all my own sauces and dressings, I knew ranch was one of my top priorities. Between salads, veggie dips, fries, and let’s be honest chicken nuggets, it’s one of my most used condiments. And what Southerner doesn’t have ranch in their fridge at any given time?
For this recipe, fresh herbs really make a difference. They pack more flavor than their dried counterparts. I used my own, homegrown parsley, dill, and chives from my garden. The dill is what really makes this ranch flavor pop. But if you aren’t growing your own herbs, most grocery stores carry fresh herbs in their produce section, and you can easily get those three in stores. If you use dried herbs, I would double the amount to make sure you’re getting the flavor punch you want.
If you want a looser ranch, then add a little milk or water to thin it out. This is better for dressing salads. But if you want a thicker, creamier dip consistency, leave out additional liquid, or add more yogurt. As always, taste and adjust your flavors accordingly. Sometimes you might need a little bit of extra garlic or onion powder!
How to Make Creamy Ranch Dip and Dressing
To make it, you will need:
- Greek yogurt (I use non-fat) or sour cream
- Mayonnaise
- Fresh parsley, chives, and dill
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Salt and pepper
- Small mixing bowl
- Airtight container or jar
Making this ranch dip is so easy! First, wash and dry the fresh herbs, and give them a rough chop. Add the yogurt (or sour cream) and mayonnaise to a small mixing bowl. Add the fresh herbs, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper, and mix well to combine. If you’d like your ranch thinner, add a little water or milk.
Once it’s all mixed together, transfer the ranch dip to an airtight container or jar, and refrigerate it until you’re ready to enjoy it. This is best when made the day before so the flavors can really develop overnight. But honestly, as little as 30 minutes is just fine!
